The Taka Museum occupies the first and second floors of the Bangladesh Bank Training Academy at Mirpur-2 and is the only museum in the country devoted to money. Entry is free.
The Bangladeshi collection runs from the first notes issued after independence in 1972 through every series since, including commemorative notes and the polymer note of 2000. Behind it sits the longer history of currency in this region: punch-marked silver, Sultanate and Mughal coins, and the coinage of the colonial period.
A second section displays paper, polymer and hybrid notes and coins from roughly two hundred countries, with a gallery on how notes are designed and printed and the security features used to protect them.
Parking is for private cars only, and groups of 40 or more are asked to book ahead.
