The rural-development academy founded by Akhter Hameed Khan in 1959: residential training on a 156-acre campus at Kotbari.
BARD was set up on 27 May 1959 under Dr. Akhter Hameed Khan, whose work here became known around the world as the Comilla Model of rural development. It is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
It trains, researches and runs field projects. Training is built around rural development, and it has reported running about 150 courses a year, mostly for officials and development workers. Organisations can ask its Director General to arrange a course.
The 156-acre campus has five hostels, conference rooms, a library, cafeterias and a sports complex. It is at Kotbari, about 10 km from Cumilla town, close to Shalban Vihara.
