Dakshindihi, a village in Phultala about 19 km from Khulna city, was home to several women of the Tagore family: the poet's mother Sarada Sundari Devi and grandmother Digambari Devi came from here, and so did his wife, Mrinalini Devi, born Bhabatarini, whom he married in 1883.
The house of her father, Beni Madhab Roy Chowdhury, was handed to the Department of Archaeology in 1994 and opened to visitors the following year as the Dakshindihi Rabindra Complex. Inside are photographs of Rabindranath and his family and things associated with them, and there are busts of the poet and Mrinalini Devi.
The complex comes alive on Tagore's birth anniversary in Boishakh, when programmes are often held here.
