The Department of Archaeology opened the Khulna Divisional Museum in 1998 beside the Shib Bari roundabout. The same building houses the department's regional office for Khulna and Barishal.
Its galleries hold objects excavated across the south-west: terracotta, figures and early medieval pottery from the Bharat Bhayna mound in Jashore, finds from Barabazar in Jhenaidah, and material from Khan Jahan Ali's Bagerhat. There are stone and metal sculptures of Hindu and Buddhist deities and gold and silver coins, among them coins of the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
It is small enough for an hour, and a good introduction before visiting Bagerhat.
