The site museum beside Shalban Vihara: bronze Buddhas, stone sculpture, gold coins, terracotta plaques and a great bronze bell from the Mainamati ruins.

About

The Mainamati Museum was set up in 1965 at Salmanpur, beside Shalban Vihara, to hold what the Mainamati excavations were finding. Most of its collection comes from Shalban, Ananda Vihara, Rupban Mura and the other sites of the Lalmai ridge.

On show are bronze and stone sculptures of the Buddha and Hindu deities, gold and silver coins, a large bronze bell, terracotta plaques, clay toys, old woodwork, pottery and handwritten manuscripts. The grounds have gardens and a resting area.

See the monastery and the museum together; tickets are sold separately.
