The Novotheatre opened on 25 September 2004 as the country's space and science theatre. Its planetarium dome is 21 metres across and seats 275 under a tilted screen fed by around 150 projectors. Until March 2025 it was called the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novotheatre; an ordinance that month shortened the name.
Around the dome there is a digital exhibits gallery, a 5D movie theatre whose seven-minute films come with bubbles, wind and water, and a set of virtual-reality games. Every visitor over three needs an entrance ticket, and each attraction is ticketed on top of it.
Tickets sell at the counter and online through the Ministry of Science and Technology's e-ticket portal, where schools and organisations can also apply for group bookings and discounts.
