Humayun Ahmed, the best-loved Bangladeshi novelist and filmmaker of his generation, built Nuhash Polli as a retreat in Pirujali village, about 25 km from Gazipur city, and named it after his son. He wrote and shot films here, and was buried here in 2012.
The estate is full of his imagination: ponds and bridges, sculptures and paintings, cottages and green gardens. Readers come from all over the country to visit his grave.
It is still the family's private estate, so the rules are theirs: tickets at the main gate, picnics only by advance arrangement. Getting there is easiest by car.
