Zainul Abedin's museum of Bengal folk art in a zamindar house at Sonargaon: woodwork, scroll paintings, masks and folk instruments, with a craft village and lake.
The painter Zainul Abedin founded the Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation on 12 March 1975 to save Bengal's folk heritage. Its museum fills the Boro Sardar Bari, a grand old mansion at Sonargaon, and a second building on the grounds.
The collection covers carved wood, scroll paintings, masks, folk musical instruments, terracotta, jute and cane work, and village jewellery. The large grounds hold a craft village where artisans work and sell, a lake for boating, a folk stage and a memorial museum to Zainul Abedin.
A month-long folk craft fair is held here every year.
