A museum of the great painter Zainul Abedin in a colonial house on the Old Brahmaputra, set up in 1975 — a branch of the National Museum.
Zainul Abedin (1914–1976), the father of modern art in Bangladesh, grew up in Mymensingh and painted the Old Brahmaputra again and again. This museum to his work opened in 1975, while he was still alive, in an old colonial house in Shaheb Quarter Park on the river bank.
Its galleries hold his oil paintings, sketches, reproductions and photographs. In 1982 seventeen paintings were stolen and only ten recovered; the largest collection of his work is now at the National Museum in Dhaka, of which this is a branch.
It is a short walk from the riverside park, and pairs well with an evening on the river.
