Marine Drive runs about 80 km from Kolatoli Square in Cox's Bazar to Shapla Square in Teknaf. Built by the Bangladesh Army's engineers and inaugurated in May 2017, it is often called one of the longest seaside roads in the world.
The drive is the attraction: beach and surf on one side, forested hills on the other, with Himchari, Inani and a string of fishing villages and quieter beaches on the way. The government declared the stretch a protected tourist zone in June 2018.
Storms have damaged parts of the road, most recently in August 2023, so expect repaired or narrowed sections. Go by hired car, CNG or bicycle; leave time to stop.
