The Alliance Française library in Dhanmondi: around 7,500 books in French, English and Bangla, plus films, music and a French digital library.
The Médiathèque Jules Verne is the multimedia library of the Alliance Française de Dhaka, on Mirpur Road at the corner of Dhanmondi Road 3. Most of the roughly 7,500 books are in French, but there is a solid English section and Bangla titles too, along with magazines and newspapers.
The multimedia shelves hold about 1,200 feature films, documentaries and animations on DVD and more than 600 audio CDs, from classical and jazz to Francophone pop. A newer Ecological Corner gathers writing on climate and the environment.
Reading on the premises is straightforward; borrowing needs a membership card. Members take out up to four books, a magazine and a journal for two weeks, plus DVDs and CDs, and get Culturethèque, the Alliance's French digital library. Students enrolled in Alliance Française courses pay a reduced rate, and get complimentary cards each term.
