Patenga Sea Beach

Patenga, Chattogram Every day: Open all day; best at sunset

Chattogram's own beach, 14 km south of the city where the Karnaphuli meets the Bay of Bengal. Free, and best in the evening.

About

Patenga lies about 14 km south of the city, near the mouth of the Karnaphuli and close to the Naval Academy and Shah Amanat International Airport. It is the beach Chattogram goes to on an evening out.

The shore here is a sea wall and a strip of sand rather than a long open beach like Cox's Bazar. People come for the sea breeze, the sunset over the Bay of Bengal, and the street food along the front. The red-and-white tower of the Outer Bar lighthouse, run by the Chittagong Port Authority, stands nearby.

The Navy patrols the beach. Currents at the river mouth are strong, so it is a place to walk and watch rather than swim.
