Shashi Lodge was built by Maharaja Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury of the Muktagacha zamindars, who had no children of his own and named it after his adopted son, Shashikanta. The first building fell in the earthquake of June 1897, and the present single-storey palace was raised in its place between 1905 and 1911.
It stands in about nine acres behind a semicircular arched gate. A marble fountain with a sculpture faces the front, and to the west is an old pond with a bathing house. Inside are another fountain, wooden floors and stained glass. The building has been a protected monument since 1989 and is now run by the Department of Archaeology as the Mymensingh Museum.
