Umesh Chandra Public Library

Officepara, Khulna Hours: Not published — check locally

Khulna's historic public library, founded in 1897: about 30,000 books and a research reading room built around one scholar's collection.

About

The library grew out of a public meeting in Khulna in February 1897. The landlord Kiran Chandra Roy paid for it, and it carries the name of his father, Umesh Chandra Roy.

It spent decades in rooms at the municipality building, then moved to the Zahid Smriti Bhaban, a move completed on 21 February 1984. It now holds about 30,000 books. Its research reading room is built around some 7,000 volumes from the personal collection of Dr. M. A. Manaf.

It is a separate institution from the Khulna Government Public Library, so check the name when you ask for directions.
