A 1916 college with a 610-foot main building that blends British and Mughal styles — domes on slender columns, arches and a vast campus.

About

Carmichael College opened in 1916 and was named after Lord Carmichael, then Governor of Bengal. It is one of the oldest colleges in the north and still teaches thousands of students.

Its main building, about 610 feet long, is the reason to visit: a mix of classical British and Mughal design, with domes on slender columns and a long run of arches. Banglapedia calls it a unique monument of zamindari architecture. Around it spreads a green campus of some two hundred acres or more, with ponds and old trees.

It is a working college, so visit respectfully, ideally outside exam times.
