A grand modern mosque complex at Guthia, finished in the 2000s, with a tall minaret, lakes, an eidgah and gardens — Barishal's best-known landmark.

About

The Baitul Aman Jame Masjid and Eidgah Complex at Guthia in Wazirpur was built on the site of a small village mosque. Work began on 16 December 2003 as a private project of the local businessman and politician Sharifuddin Ahmed Santu, and took about four years.

Besides the domed mosque, with its minaret about 58 m high, the complex has a large eidgah, three lakes, a graveyard, a madrasa and an orphanage, set in landscaped gardens. Lit up in the evening, it draws visitors from across the division.

It is a working mosque: visit outside prayer times, dress modestly and leave shoes at the door. It lies on the road to Chakhar, about 20 km from the city.
