A five-sided Mughal water fort on the Shitalakshya, one of three built in the 1600s to guard Dhaka from Magh and Portuguese pirates.

About

Hajiganj Fort, also called Khizirpur Fort, stands on the west bank of the Shitalakshya in Narayanganj town. It was built in the first half of the 17th century — by Islam Khan or Mir Jumla, accounts differ — where the old Buriganga once met the Shitalakshya.

Together with Sonakanda across the river and Idrakpur at Munshiganj, it formed a chain of water forts protecting Mughal Dhaka from raids by Magh and Portuguese pirates. It has a pentagonal curtain wall with round bastions at the corners, gun holes, and a gateway on the river side.

It is small and easily seen in half an hour.
