An 18th-century temple in Dinajpur covered from base to top in terracotta panels — the finest terracotta temple in Bangladesh.

About

The Kantajew (Kantaji) Temple at Kantanagar in Dinajpur district was begun by Maharaja Prannath of the Dinajpur Raj in about 1704 and finished by his adopted son Ramnath in 1752. It is dedicated to Krishna.

Every surface of its three storeys is covered with terracotta plaques showing scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the life of Krishna, and everyday life in 18th-century Bengal: hunts, processions, boats and courtiers. The nine spires that once crowned it fell in the earthquake of 1897.

It is in the Rangpur Division, about 20 km north of Dinajpur town — a full day trip from Rangpur. It is still a place of worship.
